A
taste of Luxembourg’s music scene … coming to London and the UK in the
near future.
To keep a record of Luxembourg musicians who played in
Britain (and who advised us of their gigs),
we want to keep old listings on this page, but show them a little further
down in grey text.

Hal
Flavin (www.myspace.com/halflavin)
Hal
Flavin was formed in Luxembourg and their music features electropop
song structures and beats, modified samples, distillations of rock
drive and a chunk of edgy synth-pop. Compared by some listeners
to Hurts, The Talking Heads or Röyksopp respectively, their sound
has a hybrid ambiguity that sets it apart. They supported the likes
of Metronomy, IAMX, The Faint, Fujiya & Miyagi, Does It Offend You,
Yeah! or Birdy Nam Nam and played at festivals like Eurosonic Noorderslag,
Rock a Field and Italia Wave Love. A series of gigs in the UK, France,
Italy, Benelux and the Czech Republic has earned them the reputation
of a thrilling live band with a sincerely electric energy.

INBORN!
(www.myspace.com/inborntrance) is
an ambitious art-rock collective originated from Luxor that has
all it takes to make their mark on the twenty-first century map
of modern rock music. After their creation in early 2010 they were
contacted by Ross Robinson and recorded their first longplayer at
his house in Venice Beach last autumn. Melting electronic body music
with the dynamics of recent indie-rock outfits, the band will soon
invade the stages all across the universe.

June 2011 - PASCAL SCHUMACHER QUARTET - South Hill Park, Bracknell
Pascal
Schumacher Quartet
(www.pascalschumacher.com)
After
his successfull performance at the Pizza Express during the London
Jazz Festival 2010 don't miss the band @ the Vortex Pascal Schumacher
(vibraphone) has been described as a 'Goldsmith' in his art, a boundary-pushing
musician, a resourceful improviser and an imaginative composer.
Keen to explore the links that exist between many musical genres,
it is difficult to pigeonhole his talent, his taste or his musical
influences. Every musician must one day free himself from role models
and traditions if he wishes to depart from well-trodden paths. Pascal
Schumacher does this in an emphatic, sensual way. The Quartet will
be playing music from 'Bang My Can', music based on an approach
characterized just as much by the chamber jazz of the eighties as
by the rock sound of the nineties and the openness of the present.

PASCAL SCHUMACHER QUARTET & MAXIME BENDER
QUARTET
Maxime
Bender Quartet
(www.maximebender.com)
Impressively
combining the old with the new, this young saxophonist is equally
influenced by the bouncy, compositional piano/sax interplay found
on 70’s albums like Keith Jarrett’s ‘Belonging’, and more modern,
angular, avant-garde tonalities. The blend is never jarring, though.
Maxime Bender has created a beautiful, buoyant body of work where
melodies can move in surprising directions, yet still sound familiar.

Greg
Lamy Quartet make their first appearance in the UK as part of the
London Jazz Festival 2010. There is a beguiling simplicity to their
laid-back delivery of tender ballads and bluesy grooves that has
drawn audiences in clubs and festivals across Europe and the States,
and most recently a tour of China.
The Quartet have been playing together for five years and released
their second album "I see you", in 09. Their tour of China
with the new album follows appearances in recent years at well-known
festivals such NYC Winter Jazz Festival, Nancy Jazz Pulsation, Brussels
Jazz Festival, Skoda Jazz Festival and Blues&Jazz Rallye Lux.
Considered
a talent on the rise, Greg Lamy honed his chops in New York, after
study at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg and Berklee
College of Music, and at clubs like 55Bar and the Knitting Factory.
As well as his Quartet he collaborates with both European and American
musicians including a forthcoming duo album with guitartist Paulo
Simoes.
“Greg's
very fluid playing settles a vast range of melodic climates. His
new album - I see you - is proof that we are in presence of a musician
with a bright future.” Lionel Loueke
