The "National Mine Museum" in Rumelange
What's on show
at this museum?
- Mining tools,
both ancient and modern.
- Machines used
to extract the iron ore.
- Documents,
maps, diagrams, photos.
- The work in
the mine from the last century until today.
How shall we
see this work ?
- In a genuine
underground gallery, 900 metres (968 yards) long, 106 metres (116 yards) below
ground.
(It's therefore a good idea to dress in warm clothes, as the temperature in
the mine is a constant 10 degrees centigrade;
Flat-heeled shoes are also advisable)
What would our
modern world be without steel and iron ?
- The iron ore
era began over 2000 years ago, but would you know how man extracts this precious
metal from the innards of the earth ? - We'll show it to you.
